Samsung just dropped the Galaxy S26 series. It's calling them the first "agentic AI phones."
The tech? Google's Gemini. It can autonomously control third-party apps. It executes tasks across platforms.
This isn't your typical voice assistant. The software acts on behalf of users. It opens and controls apps in a virtual background window. Sensitive actions still need approval. Think payments.
The S26 packs three AI layers. Google's Gemini handles cross-app automation. Perplexity works as a system-level answer engine for research. Bixby got upgraded. It now understands natural language and context.
Samsung beat Google to market. "Samsung leapfrogs rivals by shipping Gemini's agentic features at scale before Google's own Pixel line," according to industry analysis.
The S26 Ultra introduces something new. A toggleable hardware privacy display. It narrows viewing angles at the pixel level. You can assign controls per app or through the status bar. This feature "could become a new standard for on-the-go confidentiality," according to assessments of the technology's potential.
It's a response to growing concerns. Data security matters more now. AI assistants are getting more capable.
Pricing starts at $899 for the base S26. The Ultra costs $1,299.
Camera upgrades? Sure. But Samsung's emphasizing the AI integration. That's what separates the S26 from competitors in the premium market.
The timing matters. Major tech companies are racing to implement agentic AI. These systems can plan multi-step tasks. They interact with multiple apps autonomously. No more responding to individual commands.
Samsung's strategy is layered. Google partnership for Gemini. Its own Bixby assistant. Perplexity's research capabilities. The S26 showcases emerging AI functionality. It's also a privacy-centric option. Some users don't want AI systems with unchecked access.
Samsung's making a bet. The first true agentic AI phone could redefine the premium smartphone market.
