MoneyGram launched <a href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/moneygram-launches-mgusd-a-stablecoin-to-power-its-own-global-network-302787799.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MGUSD</a> on June 2, 2026. It&#x27;s the company&#x27;s native U.S. dollar stablecoin. And fintech platform Credible is already putting it to work. Credible&#x27;s integrating MGUSD into MoneyGram&#x27;s global agent terminal network. That means on-chain dollar rails connected to more than 350,000 physical cash locations worldwide. For emerging markets with limited banking access, it&#x27;s the most significant last-mile stablecoin distribution deal announced to date.
MGUSD runs on the Stellar blockchain via Bridge. Minting and burning are handled by M0. Institutional custody goes through Fireblocks. Users can hold MGUSD in a self-custodial wallet built directly into the MoneyGram app. Consumer-facing. From day one.
The Credible integration takes it physical. MoneyGram&#x27;s agent network covers Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe. These are regions where unbanked populations depend on in-person cash services. Credible plugs MGUSD into the agent terminal layer. That enables cash-in and cash-out at scale. It&#x27;s a distribution gap crypto-native protocols haven&#x27;t closed on their own.
MoneyGram serves more than 60 million customers globally, according to its June 2 press release. That customer base combined with Credible&#x27;s integration gives MGUSD a physical redemption footprint few stablecoins can claim at launch.
The momentum is measurable. On the day Credible announced the partnership, the stablecoins social category hit 89% blended positive sentiment. Highest of any tracked crypto segment that day, per LunarCrush. Credible&#x27;s post pulled 16,314 interactions from an account with roughly 102,000 followers. Strong ratio. The news traveled well beyond its immediate community. KuCoin also amplified the announcement, though its specific role in the MGUSD ecosystem hasn&#x27;t been confirmed.
The timing isn&#x27;t accidental. MoneyGram&#x27;s been building toward this since at least 2021. That&#x27;s when it started working with Stellar on cross-border remittance infrastructure. Launching MGUSD changes its position entirely. It&#x27;s no longer a passive rail for third-party stablecoins. It&#x27;s the issuer. Direct control over settlement and liquidity across its own network.
The regulatory environment helps. U.S. stablecoin legislation is moving in 2025. Policymakers are pointing to payments-grade stablecoins with real-world redemption infrastructure as the benchmark for compliant digital dollar instruments. MGUSD fits that profile. It&#x27;s backed by an established money-transfer brand. It&#x27;s integrated into a 350,000-location cash network.
