Grayscale’s bringing its staking reward distribution model to a second product. The asset manager disclosed in <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1896677/000119312526281837/gsol-20260625.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SEC filings</a> that its Grayscale Solana Staking ETF (GSOL) will begin quarterly cash payouts to shareholders. Effective date: August 7, 2026. The move extends a structure already running at ETHE. It signals a deliberate policy direction across Grayscale’s staking ETF lineup.
The GSOL amendment is an SEC 8-K filing dated July 2026. It modifies the trust agreement. GSOL now distributes staking rewards quarterly instead of retaining them inside the product. Distributions are “net” staking rewards. Grayscale deducts fees and operational costs first. Shareholders get what’s left. That’s per Solana Compass, which reviewed the July 17, 2026 filings.
A companion Form 424B3 prospectus supplement was filed the same date. It confirms ETHE shareholders are already receiving quarterly cash distributions on an ongoing basis. That structure’s been active since early 2026.
ETHE got there first. On January 5, 2026, Grayscale announced ETHE had become the first U.S.-listed Ethereum ETP to distribute staking rewards directly to shareholders. That first payout covered October 6 through December 31, 2025. It set the precedent. GSOL’s August 7 date puts Solana holders into the same framework.
The timing matters for Grayscale’s competitive position. ETHE’s taken heat for its fee structure. Competitors like BlackRock and Fidelity run competing spot Ethereum ETFs. Until now, holders of Grayscale’s staking products got no direct income from proof-of-stake rewards generated inside the fund. Cash distributions change that. Shareholders now get a tangible yield component alongside price exposure. Competing products without staking can’t offer that.
This isn’t an informal policy tweak. It’s built through formal trust agreement amendments and SEC filings. Grayscale published background staking FAQs on SEC EDGAR in October 2025. They outlined the firm’s framework for distributing versus reinvesting rewards. The 2026 amendments put that framework into operation for both funds.
Cryptonomist flagged the broader implication. Quarterly cash payouts shift how staking-enabled crypto ETFs compete. It’s not just about fees or AUM anymore. Yield’s in the conversation now.
GSOL’s August 7 date is set. Both ETHE and GSOL shareholders now have a concrete quarterly income schedule. Parallel filings for both products suggest coordination. Whether Grayscale extends this to other products? That’s still open. But this isn’t a one-off.
