That&#x27;s according to on-chain data from <a href="https://x.com/Cointelegraph/status/2074760498516492723/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Santiment.</a> It&#x27;s happening as corporate treasury buying and spot ETF demand pull tokens off the market simultaneously.
The timing lines up with a major purchase. <a href="https://www.thecoinzone.com/news/bitmine-acquires-ethereum-institutional-confidence/" data-wpil-monitor-id="2511">Bitmine Immersion Technologies reportedly acquired 40,000 ETH</a>. The price tag: approximately $71.6 million. Execution went through institutional OTC venues FalconX and Kraken, per MEXC News. The Block pegged the figure at roughly $70 million and cited Arkham Intelligence data confirming the transfers.
Santiment&#x27;s data tells a stark story. <a href="https://www.thecoinzone.com/news/bitmine-doubles-down-ethereum-losses/" data-wpil-monitor-id="2521">ETH exchange holdings</a> haven&#x27;t been this low since the network&#x27;s earliest years. That&#x27;s before the Merge. Before EIP-1559 fee burning. Before liquid staking <a href="https://www.thecoinzone.com/news/stablecoin-velocity-surge-supply-dynamics/" data-wpil-monitor-id="2522">reshaped the supply</a> picture entirely. Bitcoin&#x27;s exchange supply is compressed too. It&#x27;s sitting at its lowest since 2017, according to Santiment.
Exchange supply matters. The structural backdrop matters here. The Merge in 2022 slashed Ethereum&#x27;s issuance rate sharply. The on-chain data is clear as of early July 2026. Fewer ETH tokens are sitting on exchanges than at any point in over a decade. New categories of buyers are pulling supply through multiple channels at once. Whether that translates to price movement depends on macro conditions, broader risk appetite, and whether institutional demand holds its pace. The supply picture, though, is confirmed.
